Why Does My Rabbit Shed So Much Fur

,

Rabbits shed throughout the whole year, and it does seem pretty endless to me. you need extra care for him, grooming him at least once a day. rabbits are not able to vomit like cats do, so their loose hair they lick can cause blockage in their stomaches, and they will stop eating.. Shedding can cause health problems in your rabbit. rabbits have a slow-moving digestive system, so hair that they swallow as they groom themselves can build up in the stomach, developing into a hairball. regular grooming can remove loose hair and reduce the risk of your rabbit developing hairballs.. This shedding generally occurs in large chunks of fur that tend to get everywhere, lol, it's rather messy sometimes. and, yes, some will shed to the point of bald spots. in most cases, this is because they've over groomed that spot to get rid of the excess fur. much like with a cat or a dog, the excess fur can become itchy, so the rabbit will.

Bean is in the middle of a typical rabbit shed, which often starts at the head of the rabbit, and you see the pattern going toward the back of the rabbit, as the hair is removed. when rabbits shed. This timeframe might vary depending on rabbit breeds, but you need to groom your rabbit when they shed. this process occurs so your rabbit can grow in their new coat. the breed of your rabbit and the climate will determine the length of this process. if you have a dwarf or lion head rabbit like i do, then it will be twice a year.. Some unfortunate rabbits seem to shed all the time. in some rabbits, fur loss is restricted to the area just under the chin, in the folds of the dewlap (the fleshy flap of skin and tissue under the skin), or down the chest. some rabbits will actually chew at the irritated area so much that they develop open sores..
